JUST DAYS LEFT TO APPLY FOR RURAL WOMEN’S AWARD

Member for Coffs Harbour, Andrew Fraser, today reminded women in the Coffs Harbour electorate they have just days left to apply for the 2014 Rural Industries Research and Development Corporation (RIRDC) Rural Women’s Award.

“The RIRDC Rural Women’s Award is Australia’s pre-eminent Award for rural women,” Mr Fraser said.

“These awards are an important celebration of women achievers who are helping to create sustainable and dynamic primary industries and are making an enormous contribution to rural communities across Australia.

“I encourage all women involved in primary industries in the Coffs Harbour electorate to apply – they can either enter themselves or encourage someone with a commitment and desire to making a real difference to their industry and community to nominate.”

The Rural Women’s Award reward women’s contributions to primary industries and rural communities by providing financial assistance, mentoring, resources and support via its nation-wide network of business and community leaders for selected State winners.

The winner of the 2014 NSW/ACT RIRDC Rural Women’s Award will receive a bursary of $10,000, and both the winner and runner-up will participate in the RIRDC Australian Institute of Company Directors’ course.

“The awards are open to women in NSW and the ACT who are involved in agriculture, primary industries or resource development including broadacre and intensive livestock and cropping enterprises, horticulture, forestry, fisheries, natural resource management and related industries,” Mr Fraser added.

“Since its induction in 2000 the RIRDC Rural Women’s Award has uncovered over 180 extremely driven women who are driving innovation and building resilience within primary industries and their rural communities.”

The Rural Women’s Award is co-ordinated by NSW Rural Women’s Network through the Department of Primary Industries and is sponsored by the OEH, NSW Farmers and CWA of NSW.  The NSW/ACT winner will compete for the Australian RIRDC Rural Women’s Award to be announced late 2014 in Canberra.
