COFFS HARBOUR SET TO STAR ON SYDNEY WEEKENDER
Member for Coffs Harbour Andrew Fraser today announced that the region will be featured in a special episode on Channel Seven’s popular travel show Sydney Weekender, thanks to a NSW Government initiative to promote rural and regional NSW’s top tourism destinations.
Show presenter Karen Ledbury will travel to Coffs Harbour to check-out the local Aboriginal tourism experiences, including Wajaana Yaam Adventure Tours, Yarrawarra Aboriginal Culture Centre, and visit Cordini Beach.
Mr Fraser said the filming opportunity was secured by the NSW Government’s tourism and major events agency, Destination NSW.
“Growing tourism in rural and regional NSW is a key priority for the NSW Government and as the Member for Coffs Harbour I’m committed to ensuring this region reaps the benefits of the Government’s record investment in the industry,” Mr Fraser said.
“NSW has the largest Aboriginal population in Australia and I am delighted that Sydney Weekender will be showcasing our local Indigenous tourism attractions plus other experiences to its massive television audience.”
Minister for Tourism and Major Events Adam Marshall said the initiative is part of the NSW Government’s strategy to double overnight visitor expenditure in NSW by 2020.
“Securing media coverage, including segments on popular TV shows like Sydney Weekender, helps to promote our State’s great tourism products to a wide audience, and inspires people to look to rural and regional NSW when planning their next holiday,” Mr Marshall said.
“In the 12 months to March 2017, there were 437,100 international and domestic overnight visitors who participated in an Aboriginal cultural tourism experience in NSW – up 29 per cent on the previous year. These visitors contributed an incredible $1.4 billion in visitor expenditure to the State, up 41.5% on year ending March 2016.
“The partnership with Sydney Weekender helps shine a bright light on the vast array of attractions, activities, landscapes and produce on offer across NSW.”
This episode is one of six Destination NSW specials airing on Sydney Weekender during 2017.
Tune into the Seven Network at 5.30pm on 16 July 2017 to watch the episode.
