Local beaches will be safer with the introduction of new oxygen resuscitation kits at our Surf Life Saving clubs.
Member for Coffs Harbour Andrew Fraser said the new OTK oxygen resuscitation kits will be a welcome boost for our patrol crews at Coffs Harbour, Red Rock-Corindi, Sawtell and Woolgoolga.
“The state-of-the-art resuscitator kits are used by NSW Ambulance paramedics and will give our local Surf Life Saving clubs the best chance of helping anyone who gets into trouble at the beach,” Mr Fraser said.
“Our local volunteers do an incredible job and these OTK oxygen resuscitators will help them to continue to do so, with the best equipment.”
Health Minister Brad Hazzard announced the NSW Government will spend $200,000 on 129 OTK oxygen resuscitation kits.
“Providing every Surf Life Saving NSW club with the latest model oxygen resuscitator kits will ensure our amazing volunteer first responders are equipped with the most advanced gear when saving lives,” Mr Hazzard said.
The OTK oxygen resuscitation kits are easily portable and will replace older models used at our surf clubs.
Surf Life Saving NSW CEO Steven Pearce welcomed the NSW Government’s investment in the OTK oxygen resuscitation kits.
“Our frontline volunteers are now recognised and skilled as first responders in the community and having OTK oxygen resuscitation kits at all of our clubs will ensure that the highest level of first aid and CPR are provided,” Mr Pearce said.
“More than 1,000 surf lifesavers have now been trained in advanced resuscitation techniques and the OTK oxygen resuscitation kits will provide them with the best equipment to provide emergency medical care.”
“This will make a huge difference and help our highly trained volunteers save more lives.”
In 2017/18, Surf Life Saving NSW performed 5,299 rescues.
